Italian Espresso Machine
A Legendary Anecdote Of The Italian Espresso Machine
The Italians call it the Caffè espresso, but we call it espresso and sometimes the expresso. Espresso is simply a highly concentrated coffee beverage that is brewed using a machine that forces pressurized hot water through a reservoir of finely ground coffee particles. The machine that helps to heat, pressurize and then eject hot water via a container of fine coffee particles is what we call the Italian Espresso Machine.
It is called Italian since the first patent of the machine was filed in Milan, Italy at the beginning of the 20th Century. It was in Italy that the Italian Espresso Machine was introduced by a man called Luigi Bezzera. He filed for a patent in 1901, thus creating the first blue print on which later inventors would make improvements. By 1940’s, the piston lever espresso machine had emerged in the market. This model of the Italian Espresso Machine utilized steam pressure instead of hot water.
All other methods combined could not brew a coffee as fine as espresso coffee. The machine helps make a coffee drink with a consistent thickness. It enables a very high concentration of the finely ground coffee. The flavor of coffee especially and chemical components of the coffee achieved through an espresso machine is of an extremely high concentration. That is why espresso has become a base ingredient of other beverages like mochas, macchiato, cappuccino and lattes. Chemical analysis of espresso coffee has shown that the coffee brew is usually very highly concentrated in caffeine too. This is usually at about 180ml per cup while most other caffeine drinks only contain 30ml. Coffee brewed in other means like drip brewing only harnesses 80-130ml of caffeine per cup.
In modern circles, producing a single shot of espresso coffee is regarded as "pulling" an espresso shot. This term results from the action of drawing the lever on an Italian Espresso Machine which must be pulled so that the spring-loaded piston can force the hot water steam through the fine ground coffee. That basically explains the action of making coffee using the machine. Modern models of the machine exclusively rely on pressure that is generated by a pump or steam.
Varying types of coffee can be used with an Italian Espresso Machine. Even in Italy, where the espresso legend begun, there is variation to the type of coffee used. From roast beans, baristas among many other variant blends are used. Among the few innovations that have become an instant hit within a very short time, it is probably only the TV and the Radio that can beat the Italian Espresso Machine.
